ABCC Exam Application

Application period will be open March 10 – May 10, 2023.

ABCC exam applications include three major parts: 1) submission of documents by email to ABCCadministator@aacc.org, 2) completion of the appropriate online application form, and 3) payment of the application processing fee. The following are application requirements are for candidates applying to sit an ABCC specialty exam. Visit the corresponding exam pages for Clinical Chemistry, Toxicological Chemistry, or Molecular Diagnostics for details about the exams. Review the following requirements and prepare submission materials PRIOR to starting your online application.

  • An ABCC account will be required to submit an online application. A reminder that the login credentials will be the same as your AACC credentials because AACC supports the administration of ABCC. If you do not have an account, go to “ABCC diplomate login” in the navigation bar to create a free account if you do not already have one.
  • Downloadable template now available. Use the downloadable template and information below to prepare before submitting online application. New this year, we are providing templates for applicants to prepare their application materials prior to online submission. Please note that the online submission does not have a “save draft” feature. You must complete all at once. Template for Clinical Chemistry and Toxicological Chemistry application. Application Requirements Checklist

The following describe the five parts to the online application and highlights the documents that are required to be sent separately to ABCCadministrator@aacc.org. Please include your full name and exam that you are applying to take in any communications. Below are details to each part of the online application that will be required. The abbreviated list of requirements is:

  • Complete all parts of the online application (downloaded templates above; details also below)
  • Submit online application fee (payment at the end of the application form)
  • Update CV as a PDF in the online application form (must be a PDF)
  • Arrange to have transcripts sent to ABCC by the degree granting institution (we cannot accept directly from applicant)
  • If applicable, arrange to have credential evaluation(s) sent to ABCC (we cannot accept directly from applicant)
  • Contact information for three references and arrange to have the three letters of reference sent directly to ABCC (we cannot accept directly from applicant)
  • If applicable, fellows must also have a reference letter from their program director in addition to the three required references sent directly to ABCC (we cannot accept directly from applicant)

Part 1: Contact information

  • Online application requires an ABCC account.
  • Please note that this may be the same as your AACC account.

Part 2: Education requirements – Undergraduate and Graduate Training

Transcripts and/or credentials evaluation cannot be sent by the applicant. Official transcripts and/or credentials evaluations must be sent directly by the institution or service, respectively.

  • Visit the ABCC education requirements page for details.
  • Provide education institution information, attendance dates, and degree received date for undergraduate and graduate degrees. The online application allows up to 3 institutions to be listed.
  • Applicants are responsible for having official transcripts from their undergraduate and graduate institutions submitted directly to ABCCadministrator@aacc.org.
  • Applicants with degrees obtained outside the United Stated must additionally have a credentials evaluation report submitted directly to ABCCadministrator@aacc.org. Please note that ABCC does note provide credentials evaluation services directly.
  • Email is vastly preferred. In the event that physical mail is required, please have materials submitted to:

Part 3: Education Requirements – Postdoctoral Training

  • Postdoctoral training and/or ComACC or other accredited program information.
  • Postdoctoral institution and program director information.

Part 4: Professional Experience Requirements

  • Visit the ABCC education requirements page for details.
  • Include number of years of documented experience. 
  • Include dates of employment and percent of time dedicated to areas in respective exam field.
  • Include a descriptive paragraph for each institution that clearly outlines the type of work experience that fulfills each required category of experience and the specific amount of time spent performing work in each category.

Part 5: Documentation Upload and References

  • Upload a current CV as a single PDF directly in the online application portal. Providing a CV in any other document format may result in errors and/or inability to accept the online application. 
  • List any other relevant certifications or licensures.
  • List 3 references. Contact info for three letters of recommendation are required. You are responsible for making sure your references submit a letter of recommendation via email directly to ABCCadministrator@aacc.org. ABCC cannot accept letters of recommendation directly from the applicant. Your application will not be considered complete until we have received all transcripts, credentials evaluations (if required), and  reference letters.
  • Fellow applicants in a postdoctoral training program must also have a letter of recommendation from their program director in addition to these three letters sent directly to ABCCadministrator@aacc.org.

Payment of Application Processing Fee

  • Refer to fee schedule for payment details.
  • Complete the above steps in the online application and submit payment.
  • A receipt will automatically be sent to your ABCC account email. You may also view and download the receipt by signing into your AACC account. Once signed in, go to “My Profile” and then “Order History.” Select the appropriate item and then “Print Invoice.” As a reminder, ABCC orders are processed by AACC (the administrative support of ABCC transactions). 
  • If you are unsure of payment and/or do not see your ABCC application fee in the “Order History”, please contact AACC Customer Service (CustomerServicesInqu@aacc.org) as they process the payments.

*Your application will not be considered complete until we have received: 1) all documentation including transcripts, credentials evaluations (if required), program director letter (if required), and  reference letters; 2) completed online application; and 3) payment of the application processing fee.
